Who We Are
Founded in 2024 by Domy'nek Johnson, We Are Hear Autism Foundation was founded on love, perseverance, and a desire to build a community of understanding and support for families affected by autism. Domy'nek’s journey began when her daughter was diagnosed with autism at a young age. What followed was a season filled with emotional and mental challenges as she learned to navigate the diagnosis, advocate for her child, and connect with the right resources. Through it all, Domy'nek discovered how vital it is to have a supportive village—people who listen, encourage, and help shoulder the journey. She also recognized the importance of early evaluation and intervention, noting how life-changing it can be for children to receive support as early as possible. These experiences inspired her to create a space where other parents don’t have to face this path alone. At We Are Hear Foundation, believes every parent deserves to be heard, understood, and supported.
Why “Hear” and Not “Here”? One of the many characteristics of autism is sensory sensitivity to sound. When Penelope was diagnosed, sensitivity to sound was one of the challenges she faced most often. Because of this, the word “hear” holds a deeper meaning. “Hear” reflects the auditory sensitivities experienced by many autistic children, while also representing the importance of truly listening. To hear someone means to understand, support, and acknowledge their voice.
Our mission is to empower families by providing education, resources, and a caring community—so that every child can thrive and every parent can feel equipped, confident, and connected. Together, we’re building a village rooted in compassion, awareness, and hope.
